All participants in the Shanghai 2018-2019 program were invited to a kick-off party to launch our community and journey to Shanghai. It was difficult to find a date and time for students to gather together, but a Friday night seemed best. We hosted it at Dr. Erbes's brother's house in Calabasas because it was a large home that could accommodate all of the guests, and it was close to campus. Students were terrible about rsvp-ing so estimating the numbers for food was a little challenging. If you keep your receipts and submit them to the IP Office, the University subsidizes the event (about $7 per student, though I clearly exceeded that!). All in all, it was fun to plan the event and think of activities to make the evening memorable! LOVE IN THE DETAILS: I am a big believer that love lies in all the details so here are some details that were included in the kick-off party to make it special for the students. I wasn't invited, but I would have loved to join such party! It looked fun for someone who is a huge fan of Chinese food and culture. I am amazed at the video as it looked real fun! I am envious that I missed the chance to be a part of this party, however, I am delighted by how respectful towards the Asian culture this party celebration was. Maybe next time I can finally join the kickoff party and have fun with you people!
